How do we teach children about colors?
Colors and children are like two peas in a pod. They go to together almost every time. Where there are plenty of children, there’s many colors in the place, both literally and figuratively. However, colors are not only reflective of children’s nature. In our Daycare Center in Orlando, Florida, we integrate colors a lot not only in our establishment but also in our activities and programs. We recognize that colors can do a lot in improving a child’s learning development.
Indeed, we teach colors in our preschool in West Orlando. But what about at home? Can parents also manage to teach their children about colors even without the usual classroom setting and program? The answer is, definitely!
In fact, we’ll share with you the following helpful tips so that you can achieve this vibrant and productive lesson at home:
- Post Color Guides
Either you create your own color guide or buy one in your nearby educational shop, having a visible guide at home can help your child be reminded about colors, how they look like, and what their names are. Their familiarity can increase the more that they see these guides daily.
- Schedule a Coloring Activity
Get them some coloring books and pencils so that you can do some coloring activities on weekends, for instance. This can also fall as a family bonding activity so that your child will also look forward to doing it with you.
- Create Artistic Materials
Colors can bring out the artistic side of your child. With your supervision, let them work on colorful clay doughs, for instance, so that they can explore their imagination about what they can do with colors. When they have fun about colors, they can remember them easily, too.
- Sing Color-themed Songs
The great thing about learning things through singing is that it’s entertaining as well as easily remembered. Songs for children are filled with rhymes so that they can easily associate them. When colors are contained in a children’s song, it helps children to mention the name repeatedly, and to associate this learning experience as something fun and memorable.
- Watch Educational Videos
With the Internet, there are now a lot of educational videos available for children to view. With your supervision, children can also learn about colors from these videos as these shows can be creatively done to entice their attention and interest.
For a child like yours, there’s plenty to learn in their age. Getting acquainted with colors is just one of the many great ways to start.
